My view on the purpose of psychotherapy is through a mental hygiene approach. Much like our physical hygiene, our mental resilience and peak performance depend upon the routine and active management of our emotional lives. As such, the purpose of psychotherapy can often be seen as the mere elimination of symptoms or complaints, but I see it as a supportive adjunct towards a whole way of being.
Simply put, the active participation in psychotherapy connotes a commitment to personal excellence both personally and professionally.
